GREY SKIES FALLEN – Announce New Album “Molded by Broken Hands”
The new album from American doomed dark metal veterans GREY SKIES FALLEN “Molded By Broken Hands” will see its release on March 8th, coinciding with the 25th anniversary of the band’s debut album “The Fate of Angels”. Pre-orders, new single/video HERE.
“Molded By Broken Hands” will see the long-running contingent deliver their most triumphant work yet and is an album that carries that feeling of the underappreciated and underrated dark metal scene that was culminating in the US during the late ‘90s), an era where GREY SKIES FALLEN grew from, while helping to signal a new resurgence of doomy-dark metal artistry currently building.
Through soaring, emotionally searing melodies, glorious epic harmonics, and with an overall conquering aura, “Molded By Broken Hands” will finally deliver the recognition GREY SKIES FALLEN are worthy of.
“Modled By Broken Hands” was recorded and engineered with all keyboards provided by Colin Marston in the Thousand Caves and was mixed and mastered by legendary Swedish producer Dan Swano. It also features artwork and design by Travis Smith (Opeth, Katatonia).

Band history (extensive):
Grey Skies Fallen traces its roots back to October 1995, when Rick Habeeb, (guitar/vocals) Joe D’Angelo (guitar) and Chris Montalbano (bass) started jamming together. Rick and Joe had known each other since 1992, and would often go to the rehearsal studio as teenagers and write songs. While nothing came of these early attempts, seeds were planted for the future. In early 1996, the name Eve of Mourning was adopted (unbeknownst to the band, there already was a Chicago doom outfit with that name) and a demo tape called “A Dark Serenade” was recorded in March 1996. In February 1997, the Chicago Eve of Mourning contacted the band and it was at this time the band name was changed to Grey Skies Fallen.
In March 1997, a demo tape w/a drum machine was recorded and was handed out at a My Dying Bride show in New York during May of that year. Around this time Craig Rossi, (keyboards) and Aaron Williams (drums) joined the fold.
Spring and Summer of 1998 saw the band record their debut album, “The Fate of Angels.” An advance copy found its way into the hands of Nightfall Records who immediately took interest in the band. Nightfall Records owner Don Decker was also the booker for Milwaukee Metalfest and related festivals, so the band was booked for the inaugural March Metal Meltdown in Asbury Park, New Jersey in March of 1999. It was at this fest that “The Fate of Angels” was officially released. This fest also signaled the first show for new drummer Sal Gregory, who joined the band shortly after the recording of the debut album. Nightfall Records soon re-issued “The Fate of Angels.”
The band would go on to play the 1999 Milwaukee Metalfest as well as the November to Dismember fest that year in San Antonio, TX. At that show, they performed directly before Moonspell and In Flames. In 2000, the band would play March Metal Meltdown and Milwaukee Metalfest again. At the Milwaukee Metal Fest that year the band would play right before Katatonia and then Opeth (both of these bands were making their US debuts at this show, and were using Grey Skies Fallen’s amplifiers). The band would play ther final Milwaukee Metalfest in 2001 and would then enter the studio to record their second album, “Tomorrow’s in Doubt” (2002). This was the first album to feature Sal on drums, and also Jimmy White on bass. This lineup recorded two full lengths, with the second being “Two Way Mirror,” (2006) which was somewhat of a sonic shift for the band.
It wasn’t until 2010 before the band’s next release, the EP “Along Came Life”. This was a 4 song EP which, at the time, was Joe D’angelo’s last recording with the band. In 2012, the band would recorded as a 3-piece and release the EP, “Introspective,” which included a 21:12 minute-long title track.
Joe Sanci (guitar) and Tom Anderer (bass) joined the band in 2013 and we quickly wrote songs that would make up 2014’s “The Many Sides of Truth.” Another independent release, this was the first time GSF appeared on vinyl. The following year, a 7 inch entitled “Earthwalker” was released. This would be the final recording with Joe Sanci on guitar.
Joe D’angelo came back temporarily at this time, and the band recorded “From Darkest Skies” for a My Dying Bride tribute album. After 18 years, this would be the last recording with Craig Rossi in the band.
Right before the world closed down in early-2020, the band released the full length “Cold Dead Lands.” This was the first GSF album mixed and mastered by Dan Swano, and is also the first GSF album without keyboards.
After the pandemic, Joe D’angelo returned to the band full-time and the band set out to write and record the new album “Molded by Broken Hands”.
