ZOZOBRA – Harmonic Tremors / Bird Of Prey Vinyl Re-Issues
Continuing to keep the flame burning for the musical legacy of Caleb Scofield (Cave In, Old Man Gloom), the vinyl editions of ZOZOBRA’s “Harmonic Tremors” and “Bird Of Prey” are now available for pre-order (HERE) and will finally see the light on April 28th. Done in conspiracy with the Scofield family and those within the circle, these editions are the first time these titles are released on vinyl for the first time for wide release. The previous LP editions were limited tour editions only available at shows, along with the 2xLP comp edition released in 2018 that was only available at Caleb’s memorial benefit show.
These vinyl editions of “Harmonic Tremors” and “Bird Of Prey” have been re-mastered for vinyl by the original mastering engineers, “Harmonic Tremors” by Nick Zampiello and “Bird Of Prey” by Chris Common respectively and well as will featuring the same art and design, done by Aaron Turner, as the original CD editions and re-formatted for vinyl.
“Harmonic Tremors” was originally released in 2007 via Hydra Head and features drummer Santos Montano (Old Man Gloom) accompanying Scofield. It deftly traverses the far-flung fields of transcendental space rock and explosive dirge metal with alternately snarling and oscillating riffery, crippling bass quakes, and apocalyptic proclamations hurled end over end toward the cosmic unconsciousness.
Following on its seismic heels, “Bird Of Prey” was originally released in 2008 via Hydra Head and features drummer Aaron Harris (Isis) who also recorded and mixed “Bird Of Prey”. Scofield’s second full-length under the ZOZOBRA moniker is a white-hot exploder shot through with snaking melody lines and implacable riffs. From front to back, Scofield’s signature roar is tempered by his own gleaming backup chants; meanwhile, an arsenal of guitars alternately churns and shimmers in the flames of ZOZOBRA’s effigial namesake.
